I'm wanting a new car stereo but I'm struggling to understand the specific details of Mirrorlink - in theory it looks good as I was originally intending an all singing all dancing car stereo but mirrorlink would appear to give me all that functionality through my phone at a fraction of the price. However I've read through a couple of mirrorlink threads on here and they're not very promising, I'm not sure if the Note 4 isn't very good for Mirrorlink or it's the head units people are using.
The one I had in mind was the Sony XAV-602BT, which Sony list very few phones as being compatible with it - a post here said it would work with the Note 4 if the head unit was Mirrorlink v1.1 compatible but this isn't listed in the specs for this head unit and not for others either it seems. If the Sony isn't a suitable choice, is there a similar head unit from another manufacturer worth considering or should I scrap the idea?
Edit - this handy site (https://cert.mirrorlink.com/ProductListing/) says the Sony is v1.0 so I guess that head unit is out the window.
Also what is a mirrorlink cable exactly? A review seemed to claim it to be something specific rather than a general cable but it looks like a standard micro USB cable.
