[Q] [5.0] Which partition is hboot? topic

Since Lollipop, I can no longer access hboot via /dev/block/mmcblk0p11, and when I do # mount | grep blk, it shows:

/dev/block/mmcblk0p45 /system ext4 ro,seclabel,noatime,data=ordered 0 0
/dev/block/mmcblk0p46 /cache ext4 rw,seclabel,nosuid,nodev,relatime,data=ordered 0 0
/dev/block/mmcblk0p39 /devlog ext4 rw,seclabel,nosuid,nodev,relatime,errors=continue, data=ordered 0 0
/dev/block/mmcblk0p27 /fataldevlog ext4 rw,seclabel,nosuid,nodev,relatime,errors=continue, data=ordered 0 0
/dev/block/mmcblk0p37 /carrier ext4 rw,seclabel,nosuid,nodev,noatime,grpid,data=ordere d 0 0
/dev/block/mmcblk0p22 /custdata ext4 ro,seclabel,nosuid,nodev,relatime,data=ordered 0 0

During 4.4.x, I was able to access hboot via mmcblk0p22 but it was gone since 5.0.x. I wanna take away those annoying red text, can anyone point me to the right direction?

[Q] Nandroid: backup modem partition topic

Hi there,

I'm new to this forum, I have read a lot, thanx for the info for sa far!

My question is: I have a LG G2 an made a backup using Online Nandroid Backup (NORMAL BACKUP MODE).
When I browse the backup, there's a modem partition (3 MB).

If I try to make a backup using SELECTIVE BACKUP MODE, I can choose what partitions to backup. But there's no option to backup the modem partition.

How can I make a single nandroid backup of this partition?

(I tried to make a nandroid backup of the EFS partition, but that was empty)

Thank you in advance!

Regards Erik

Changing partition with pit files (and battery drain) topic

Can someone confirm this for me? I am pretty sure I used the one that mods the preload. (was using kitkat, lollipop and even happened on stock.) and I had a massive battery drain while the phone was idle. If I charged it and left it alone it would drain at 0.7/h. But if I used it for a few things. Like XDA for example and I put it back into idle mode. It would drain at 3-5% with no severe wakelocks. Going out of my mind I Flashed the stock pit back (haven't had accesse to a computer) and now it went 4 hours with no battery lost. And using my phone it doesn't drain rapidly. After 2 hours it hadn't lost any power except for what I used.

Ps. I know this is very long and hopefully it helps. As I would like to use a pit file to better manage my apps. But the battery drain was just to much

[Q] Can't mount second Link2SD partition in CM 11 topic

I'm not a programmer - I just did my first root of my Galaxy S4 Blaze last month so please bear with me. I posted this under XDA Assist but that was the wrong place...

Yesterday I flashed a version of CM 11 that I had been using for a month with no problems because of some weird things happening with the newer CM 11 nightly I got a couple of days ago. This is what I'm now using again:

cwm-11-20150119-NIGHTLY-t769.zip

When I reinstalled Link2SD after flashing this ROM, I set it to Ext4 as it was before and I got this error:

"Mount Script Error - mount script cannot be created. Can't create handler inside thread that has not called Looper.prepare(0)."

Link2SD was working fine before I wiped the phone and reflashed the older CM 11. I tried uninstalling Link2SD, rebooting, reinstalling and then trying the other formats (Ext 2, 3) with the same result.

Not knowing what else to do I backed up my card and used Mini Partition Wizard to delete and recreate the partitions (FAT32 and Ext4) . Exact same error in Link2SD.

I tried making both partitions FAT32, same error.

I have no idea what else to try here. Can someone help me, please?

[Q] Can't mount Link2SD partition after reflashing CM, please help topic

I'm not a programmer - I just did my first root of my Galaxy S4 Blaze last month so please bear with me.

This morning I flashed a different version of CM 11 because of some weird things happening with the nightly I got a couple of days ago; that worked fine. This is what I'm using and have been using since about a month ago, except for the last few days:

cwm-11-20150119-NIGHTLY-t769.zip

Got all my apps and data back thanks to Titanium Backup, everything is working fine. But when I reinstalled Link2SD, I set it to Ext4 as it was before and I get this error:

"Mount Script Error - mount script cannot be created. Can't create handler inside thread that has not called Looper.prepare(0)."

Link2SD was working fine before the ROM change. When I partitioned it, the second partition was Ext4. I tried uninstalling Link2SD, rebooting, reinstalling and then trying the other Ext (2, 3) with the same result.

Not knowing what else to do I backed up my card and used Mini Partition Wizard to delete and recreate the partitions (FAT32 and Ext4) . Exact same error in Link2SD.

I tried making both partitions FAT32, same error.

I have no idea what else to try here. Could something have happened to my SD card while it was in the phone this morning during the
ROM change? I find that kind of hard to believe. Can someone help me, please?

(Q) DD a partition in fastboot or recovery topic

Is there any possibility using dd command in fastboot or recovery? If not, how can I clone a partition in fastboot or recovery? I have accidentally wiped my internal sd storage, I don't want to flash a ROM so I wont overwrite userdata partition. Thank you.

Can not for the life of me find the recovery partition! topic

Device: Meizu MX3

It has the recovery into which you can physically boot, but there is absolutely no sign of it in partition table...

The only possible explanation I can find is that it sits somewhere in this visually unused start 0MB end 201MB space (see the parted print output above), but how can I possibly retrieve it and isolate from other junk without knowing the mounting points? I've tried pulling it with
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/sdcard/p0-201 ibs=1 skip=0 count=201000000 but all I can do with this data is read it's hex only.

DD a partition in fastboot or recovery? topic

Hello, is there any way I can dd a partition from fastboot or recovery? I have accidentally advanced wipe my internal SD card, I don't want to flash anything yet so I can recover my files from mmcblk0p28. I have been searching everywhere but I cannot find the answer. Thanks.

[MOD][TWRP][RECOVERY] Reclaim the whole free space of your system partition topic

Hello,

many users complain that since lollipop their system partition size doesn't reflect the actual system of the block device. Therefore, they can not install some extra in this partition( busybox, big gapps packages,etc.).

This is due to the system image size:
One of the parameter of your system partition is its size, but if the block device(i.e. the part of your internal storage that will be mounted for the system partition)'s size that is mounted is larger than the system partition's size than you will loose some space.

Fortunatlly resize2fs executable allows to modify an ext2,ext3,ext4 partition size:

(As of this writing, the Linux 2.6 kernel supports on-line resize for filesystems mounted using ext3 only.).

This package simply resizes your system size to match the size of your block device size.

Instructions:

  • Boot on a twrp 2.8.x.y TWRP recovery

  • flash the package

Stuffed EFS partition topic

Ok, so long story short, I made a nandroid of my wife's water damaged LG G2 (turns on but touchscreen screwy) and restored it to her brand new LG G2...that is...I restored ALL the partitions...including EFS (yes, major id10t).
So the IMEI zeroed out and she was getting "G" data service only.
After following these steps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2701861
I was able to restore her IMEI, and 4g returned, however, only briefly. After 4-5 minutes with working 4g (and not changing anything), it switches back to "g" or "e" and stays that way. Each time I restore a nandroid (without the efs this time), it picks up 4g and then it switches over to G/E permanently. I'm guessing the network is detecting something wrong with the device..but what?
I know I must've really stuffed the EFS partition, but before paying the LG service center to fix it, is there anything else I can try??

[Q] Need partition help. Nextbook 8 premium topic

Ok so, the sd card slot fell out of my cheap nextbook tablet. In order to play the games I do, I have to have "external storage". Is there any way I could make the tablet think that part of the internal storage is the external sd card so I could store worlds from my game on it?

Surface pro 2 TP graphics problems? and recovery partition topic

Hi guys, bit moth balls around here but perhaps someone else will stumble in to these parts and have an answer

Intel Graphics, yes there driver support is shocking, but whats more annoying is every other day windows update attempts to download and install system updates, it says its successful but its clearly not. I have all sorts of issues with hardware acceleration, some times even youtube videos wont work, Netflix is the same.

So firstly, anyone else have bother with the system updates?
next up, does anyone have any sources of Intel Drivers for the surface pro 2

finally, does anyone know if MS will be changing recovery partitions allowing windows 10 to directly be recovered rather then jumping throught Win8 hoops?

[REF][NOOBS] Partition Layout of GALAXY S3 topic

I made a simple file with all information related to Galaxy S3 Partition Layout.
This is nothing for anyone who knows How to create a ROM, but it can help others like me who don't know all the mount points. :D

Quote:

What's it ?
- A simple Notepad++ created file
Is it really needed ?
- Well, not sure if I can reply to this; but I thought it was worth a share.
Who is it for ?
- For everyone who needs it ;)
How can I download it ?
- You can to download it in attachments.
How to use it ?
- Push to root directory aka "/(here)" with a Root Explorer or use this command if you downloaded it with phone:

Code:

cp -r "/sdcard/download/emmc" /

- Set permissions to 0755
- Now type:

Code:

cat /emmc

and see
- Alternatively, you can use "cat /sdcard/download/emmc" or SIMPLY view it with any document viewer.

Now you can extract .img files using dd !
Exemple:

Code:

dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 of=/sdcard/boot.img (for Kernel)
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 of=/sdcard/recovery.img (for recovery)
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4 of=/sdcard/parameter.bin (for parameter file)
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 of=/sdcard/EFS.tar.gz (for EFS)

That's it.
