[Q] Looking for a ROM with a specific feature. topic

I just got a Nexus 5. I made a mistake and traded a LG G2 for a Windows Phone (that entire OS is garbage) and then got a S3. And finally had enough money to get a real phone. So anyway I want a better ROM for it. But I could not find a very specific feature I want. I am looking for a 5.0.x ROM that I can change the signal to Dbm instead of bars. AOKP can do it but there is not AOKP 5.0.x ROM's available. Thank you in advance.

Update to specific firmware without root topic

Hello

Apologies if this has been covered before, but couldn't find anything in search.

I'm setting up a new UK unit which is currently running 51.1.4.0_user_514005520. Can I update to 51.1.4.0_user_514006420 (1 version up) without root? That's the version that fixes kodi/spmc launch crash. I'm thinking maybe there is a dir I can copy the update to and reboot the device. But, even then, I would hazard a guess that you need root to copy it there :/

This is my first experience with a unrooted box since US launch (I imported one and rooted from the start) so not sure if this is possible to do. I want to avoid updating to the latest firmware if I can.

Thanks!

[Q] Car mount (specific needs) topic

I'm looking for a car dock for my Note 4.

Looking at all the existing threads (yes, there are several), the most recommended options seems to be
  1. iOttie One Touch XL

  2. iOttie One Touch 2

  3. iBolt xProDock

But none of them seems to fit the bill for me. I've got a bumper case on my phone, and with the case it's about 3.35 inches wide. The Touch XL only supports phones up to 3.3 inches and the Touch 2 only goes to 3.2 inches. The xProDock seems to be able to handle the size of my phone, but it looks to be designed for holding the phone in landscape mode. I much prefer portrait mode for GPS navigation. I also want something that mounts to a RAM ball mount, which the xProDock does.

So, does anyone have any recommendations for a dock that attaches to a RAM ball, is made for portrait mode and can hold my 3.35 inches wide phone?

[Q] Building CM12 - Can't download device specific stuff topic

I already downloaded all the source by using "repo sync" but can't download the Z1 stuff to compile:

Code:

...
~/android/system/device/sony/honami$ breakfast honami
including vendor/cm/vendorsetup.sh
build/core/product_config.mk:239: *** _nic.PRODUCTS.[[device/sony/honami/cm.mk]]: "vendor/sony/rhine-common/rhine-common-vendor.mk" does not exist.  Stop.
Device honami not found. Attempting to retrieve device repository from CyanogenMod Github (http://github.com/CyanogenMod).
Found repository: android_device_sony_honami
Default revision: cm-12.0
Checking branch info
CyanogenMod/android_device_sony_honami already exists
Syncing repository to retrieve project.
Fetching project CyanogenMod/android_device_sony_honami
Fetching projects: 100% (1/1), done.

Repository synced!
Looking for dependencies
Done
build/core/product_config.mk:239: *** _nic.PRODUCTS.[[device/sony/honami/cm.mk]]: "vendor/sony/rhine-common/rhine-common-vendor.mk" does not exist.  Stop.

** Don't have a product spec for: 'cm_honami'
** Do you have the right repo manifest?

[Q] What are the specific steps to flashing a custom ROM on an S-On device? topic

So I've looked around the internet, watching videos and reading these threads, and I've basically never found a single piece of ... words that tells me step-by-step everything that I need to flash a custom rom. Here's what I mean.
I constantly run into problem after problem trying to run a rom e.g. Cyanogen, LiquidSmooth, Paranoid, etc and everytime I do encounter a problem, it's because the videos and threads I see don't mention it. Then I research and find something else that has something else not included in it, and I go research for that and etc etc the cycle continues.
I never knew that for most of the things you do with rooting you need S-off, which is a PITA to obtain unless you have .
I wish I knew I needed S-off to modify the radio so that my SIM card works on my roms. I wish I knew I needed S-off to customize a lot of things. And how exactly do you update your RUU or Radio or whatever? I always find scattered stuff about it.
Even now, I know I'm missing something in the "prerequisites" of flashing a custom rom. It doesn't make sense since the other demonstrations I see have perfectly working phones with functional mobile data.
I have a rooted AT&T HTC One M8, currently on 4.4.4 KitKat. The only thing I could think of that I sort of screwed up at first with it is using something called "Minimal ADB & Fastboot" and inputting "adb shell" and some other stuff after attempting to edit the name of HTCLockscreen.apk to the same except with .bak attached to it. This obviously failed because I wasn't able to edit the name, but I still input the commands.
Hopefully, I get some help because I really need it.:confused:

Lock specific Apps with your fingerprint topic

I love disabling my lockscreen security (fingerprint) on my note 4 when I have MOTO 360 on but still like to keep specific apps locked. I know of two options FingerLock and FingerSecurity, one requires root and xposed and the other doesn't.

First, FingerLock: (my fav)
FingerLock
requires root and Xposed
ability to lock system apps
doesn't need to run background services
but there is no xposed on lollipop, the last I checked, so not future proof.

Second, FingerSecurity:
FingerSecurity
no root or xposed required
runs on lollipop

Not here to sell you on the apps, if you wanna know more about them I posted links.
If I missed something like other apps please tell me, we are a community after all.

Digital High GPE Rom unable to go to specific website??? topic

Hello!

I have kind of a weird issue that really has me quite confused. Running the latest GPE rom from Digital High on my Verizon HTC One m8. Everything works flawlessly and I am so happy with it... Except for the ESPN Fantasy Hockey app, which complains of not having an internet connection. Tried clearing cache, uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Nothing works. So as a workaround, I try to go to games.espn.go.com in Chrome browser, and the webpage is not available... How weird is that? I even tried factory resetting the rom and it still doesn't work. At first I suspected a DNS issue, so tried using an app to manually set DNS servers to public google servers (8.8.8.8), but that also did nothing.

For the sake of being thorough, this happens whether I am using LTE, Wifi at work and Wifi at home. I know it's kind of a strange isolated issue, but if any of you running a similar setup could try accessing that website, it would be great to know if that is where the issue lies... My wife's Moto X has no issues at all accessing this so I a certain it is specific to my phone (just want to know if it is the rom or my phone, and hoping someone here will have a brilliant idea to fix it).

Thanks!
