the first thing i must review about this device is the shop where i purchased it
[IMG][/IMG]
payment was made to the shop on the 12 feb...twelve days later i received the device smack bang in the middle of chinese new year celebrations,to say i was impressed would be an understatement as most devices shipped from china often take longer to reach the UK,so props go out to http://www.club1941.com/ for such swift delivery during this time of celebration
the device arrived in great condition well packaged and i even received an email from the company with a picture of the device ready to ship
[IMG][/IMG]

opening the parcel i was slightly surprised to find that jiayu ship the device in a small brown box which did not impress me at all,but i suppose they gotta save money somewhere...LOL
in the box i received the phone, micro usb to usb cable,1 charger adaptor and one soft gel back cover case the disappointment for me was that there were no headphones...but once again at the price http://www.club1941.com/ were selling it at,it was to be expected
[IMG][/IMG]

so first things first i want to know if my device is real or a spoofed clone so developer options enabled, usb debugging enabled MTK Droid tools run as admin and connected the device for a look at it's real specs
[IMG][/IMG]

after getting that out of the way i then decided to have a look inside of the device and check the all round build quality and battery
as this device ships with a 3000/3100 mah battery,as i also own a oppo find 7 with the same size battery it was easy to compare the two, both were of the same size and weight and after a few days of regular use i would conclude that the battery is most probably what it says it is and not a fake
as for build quality for it's price and specs i again was surprised, although mostly plastic it did survive slight attempts and bending although i didn't want to put too much pressure on a mainly plastic device,i will also add it survived a drop test,(which was not really a test i actually dropped the phone onto my table from a standing position down to about knee level)...it bounced, bounced again and survived without a scratch so either i was lucky or it can indeed survive minimal dropping
inside the back cover, which although quite thin fit very well onto the device, you can see the NFC connection, this worked perfectly transferring a picture from my oppo find 7 to the Jiayu S3s instantly.
the dual sim slots were easily accessible, same for the micro sd slot, unusually there was no IMEI sticker behind the battery on this device,as you can see from the pictures it is on the inside of the back cover, and also on the box the device came in,(so keep the box in a safe place).
the dual speakers which i will say were not that impressive, sounding rather weak considering that there are two of them present in the device, maybe a firmware update can solve this issue...let's hope so
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]

overall externally the device is quite sleek and it's rounded edges reminded me of a samsung, just without that horrible shiny plastic that looks so out of place on a samsung, the edges of the back cover curve up around the device and sit snugly to the screen giving the jiayu a much better look than the samsung devices
the back cover is also very, very smooth which is why i dropped it as i mentioned above, the supplied soft gel case gives it a little more grip but not much so i do hope we see more accessories available for this device on the market soon

[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]

the 5.5 OGS 1920x1080 FHD 480dpi (10 point multi-touch) screen on this device is a very nice feature, some people say that you cannot tell the difference, personally for me,it does make a big difference when playing games and watching movies
the viewing angles are great, although i have yet to attempt to watch anything at an astute angle on a smart phone...LOL
one of the first things i also did was to get the supplied screen protector fitted,(by a professional in a shop of course because i am useless at doing it),i wanted this screen protected ASAP and am looking forward to seeing tempered glass protection accessories in the future
[IMG][/IMG]

64bit OCTOCORE MTK6752 and Mali-T760 GPU make this device a gamers paradise
it can handle any 3D game thrown at it with ease, add to that 3GB of RAM...and it can easily compete with any flagship device on the market today without question...but for half the price
browsing is quick, videos on YouTube flow seamlessly multitasking is effortless and this is a massive PLUS for this device
Jiayu did not hold back on the hardware in the slightest and we 'the public' are the lucky receivers of such generosity
[IMG][/IMG]

the system UI seems like it has a slight modification from jiayu,it is not pure google android, and they have not done a bad job of it either
don't get me wrong,it is no cyanogen mod or AOSP but did surprise me with one or two things i certainly did not expect
embedded superuser was one of them and themes were the other...it is not everyday that a chinese manufacturer will build a rom with an embedded superuser app installed in it's security settings...but there it was,one quick flick of a switch and instant root, which means no loss of warranty,(although i have yet to confirm this),but common sense says...if it's already in the system UI as a setting...nuff said, root checker confirms this when run on the system and busybox/titanium backup all installed without a hitch
as for the in built themes, they are actually quite good with quite a variety to choose from...not an immense amount, but enough to keep you happy, from a straight AOSP feel through to a nice pink theme for the ladies, third party launchers also instal ok from the market so if you do not like the stock themes you can always download another, the home screen did lack for choice as it is not possible to change the set pattern 4x6 but if your bothered by this as i said just change your launcher, inside the system we get a few extras like 'mira vision' which helps to set the screen sharpness to your liking if you so desire
another great feature on this device is the gesture sensors,no need to pass your hand a millimeter over the sensor in order for you to activate it you have around an inch and a half to play with and it is even possible to unlock the device with these gestures if you feel the need
smart wake gestures give you the option to double tap to wake the screen which is becoming the norm on the latest devices out of china and you also get a number of other gestures to play with
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]

battery life is also pretty good with at least a day and a half of use with medium regular usage,i would estimate a good 5 hours screen on time maybe a little less with heavy 3D gaming
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]

GPS was outstanding with a strong lock within seconds, these new SoC's from mediatek have really upped the game in this department
connection to google maps was almost instantaneous on my location with high accuracy enabled in location settings
[IMG][/IMG]

and now we get to the camera, the main 13mp shooter was not bad at all giving me some nice shots in daylight, you have a choice of 4:3 or 16:9 with your picture size which was nice with settings for anti-shake,gesture shot etc,the auto focus worked very well and the screen tracking was ok but not that great, burst shot worked very well...and at a push i would say that the camera app needed an update or two to make it go from good/okay to very good/awesome...i will leave some shot i took with the camera at the end of this thread for you guys to have a look and judge for yourselves but i am admittedly a terrible camera man
i am not going to even mention the selfie 5mp shooter it is that bad, this camera seriously needs help in the form of an update
so let's hope that jiayu send one out very soon for all us S3s users

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

so my conclusion...is this device worth the price tag...well at the price http://www.club1941.com/ are selling it at the moment for without a doubt yes
does it need firmware updates...yes
bang for your buck...yes,yes,yes
i would say in my humble opinion that these so called mid-range devices coming out of china with all this power and glory are a little way behind todays 'flagships' from your regular manufacturers like samsung,sony,HTC...but they are certainly not far behind
i am seriously impressed with the new mtk chips in these devices all they really need is a decent rom inside them and the rest of the world is going to start taking notice...beware all you over priced contract phones because china is catching you up and i think they will soon overtake you
