External 3.5mm ear jack IR remote control topic

Hi! I just bought an external 3.5mm ear jack universal IR remote control for android but I'm not sure how to make it works. When I'm using any IR universal remote apps, it says my phone does not support IR function. Can anyone tell me why or how to use it? I really appreciate your help.
